LOVE ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH
May 15, 2003

Soon it will be Mother's Day and I am a horrible mother , Susan thought as she watched her children play in their cramped apartment. As she looked around at her fiancee's empty liquor bottles, she wondered how and why she had gotten herself and her babies into this situation, again. Love, she was learning, was not enough when someone is always the taker and never the giver. Was there anyone who could help her take the steps necessary to leave the verbal and physical abuse and stand on her own two feet? Was there protection from painful reprisal of such a decision? She knew she could not let them live like this anymore.

This is only one of the many situations played out daily in the life of our “Friendly Village.” Many women and children are imprisoned by circumstances, seemingly beyond their control, and don't know where to turn.

Susan called Health Care Resources and found that we care! We listened, searched resources and helped direct her to St Claire's Home, which is just one such caring agency. There Susan found a place of safety, programs for skills training, education, child care, nutritious meals, counseling, and a clean, happy and safe place to live. Susan now has a new future with a safe promise including many happy Mother's Days with her children.
