LOV'N IN THE MORNING, LOV'N IN THE EVENING, LOV'N AT SUPPER TIME
June 13, 2002

Lois lives alone in a small mobile home. She is crippled with arthritis and almost blind, feeling isolated and frustrated with her many struggles. Getting to the refrigerator was not only painful, but, once there identifying the contents was trial and error.

Visiting relatives ran across HCR's number and called hoping to find any kind of help for their aged but “independent” Grandmother. Sharion and Ruth knew of the wonderful services of “Braille Institute” and convinced them to qualify for eligibility. HCR helped the family schedule visits from a Braille representative in Lois's home bringing a plan to help her identify and judge all of her daily duties. She is learning to gauge how much coffee to pour into a cup, label canned and frozen goods and even identifying her money and match clothes colors. Braille mapped out a safe routine for her home and even supplied her with pleasure reading from a talking-book player. Lois learned to make a “what is it” basket to ask her relatives or sited visitors to identify for her. By HCR directing the family to this wonderful resource, Lois has learned various enrichment skills that reinforce the independent living she desires. Lois now feels loved in the morning, in the evening and at supper time. Her relatives relax in knowing someone else loves her and many present fears have been put to rest.
