WARNING SIGNS!
August 8, 2002

Dangerous symptoms are always an indication of dangerous problems. Sue, a single Mom with loving children, was becoming very alarmed at her son's emotional reactions. Changes in his personality and moods, withdrawing from others and abnormal self-centeredness greatly concerned her. Sam had become delusional with excessive anxiety. This very intelligent child changed eating patterns and exhibited inappropriate emotional outburst at home and school. His problem was affecting the whole family. Needing direction, Sue called Health Care Resources.

While searching, Health Care Resources became aware of many other Fallbrook families dealing with exactly the same issues. Sharion, Health Care Resources manager, contacted an organization called NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill). She sought a process to bring a support group to Fallbrook. NAMI agreed to meet the challenge - Help was on the way!

Weeks later, Fallbrook Healthcare Foundation voted to donate their building's conference room for weekly meetings. President Don Mykkanen and member Kathy McKernan agreed to join a team to help expedite the process. Dr. Timothy Murphy, Psychiatrist, echoed his support and now consults the action team.

Fortuitously, NAMI meets each Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in the Foundation Building at

135 South Mission . Sue now has the needed support for her son.

NAMI purpose to help families develop the understanding skills and strengths needed to cope with their mental ill family members and secure the best possible treatment, rehabilitation and community support programs.
