WHO CARES?
September 11, 2003
Have you ever passed by street people with the thoughts of “Thank goodness that is not me,” or “Why would they live like that?” Do you look on these people with pity, with understanding, or with disdain? Do you just pass by, or have you ever dared to stop and offer assistance in money, food, clothing or a nice warm bed?
This week in Fallbrook, Pat and her teenage daughter Sue, while on their way to lunch, passed by two such people – another mom and teenage daughter. Pat like many of us, drove past and had some of the above thoughts, but then, overwhelmed by the old saying, “There but by grace of God go I,” Pat and Sue decided to turn around and offer their help.
Mom and daughter were tired, dirty and in need of medical attention. After Pat and Sue bought them lunch, Sue remembered reading about Health Care Resources and gave them a call seeking further assistance.
Sharion, at HCR , carefully listened, skillfully questioned, then suggested four services to best meet the needs.
Today because of Pat and Sue, HCR and others in our community, the street mom and daughter received proper medicine, were taken to a caring home where others like themselves receive work-training, education and help to get back on their feet. BUT, it took Pat and Sue who saw and cared. At Health Care Resources, we care too.
